YouShape: Giving young people the chance to shape their input in decision making at The Scout Association.

On February 7th 2015, we are inviting 120 young people aged 14-25 from across the UK to join the UK Youth Commissioner and team in London to ensure that how young people are involved and communicated with about issues and ideas within Scouting, is shaped by young people themselves. The main structure for this process will be through the UK Scout Youth Council, so thoughts and ideas on this play a big role during the event.

Having first hand experience in discussing and making decisions on a national level is a fantastic experience for young people to take part in, and will help develop their skills, boost their confidence and allow them to meet other young people from across the UK to share ideas and experiences with.

Date: 7 February, 2015

Time: 10:00 to 16:00

Age: 14 – 25 years

Location: Shannon Suite, Copthorne Tara Hotel, Scarsdale Place, Kensington, London, W8 5SR

The day’s agenda will include, but not be limited to, sessions on:

  • What sort of issues do young people in The Scout Association want to discuss/change?
  • How can we ensure we are engaging with as many young people as possible?
  • Who will make up the UK Scout Youth Council?
  • How often/where should the council meet, or should it be online?

Registration is open via an online form and closes on the 22nd January 2015. Please let young people in your area know about the event. Information will also be going out to young people direct through social media – please look out for these messages and share them when you’re online!

We would appreciate local support in helping members to attend the event – joining young people with others who are attending, supporting costs of transport to and from the event and encouragement to attend. Refreshments and lunch on the day will be provided.

Further information will be available later this month on how even more young people can be involved during the day through social media, so every young person aged 14-25 in The Scout Association can have their voice heard.

For more information on the event, please contact the youth shaped team on youth.shaped@scouts.org.uk.

Yours,

Hannah
