The Role

 Responsible to:                                           County Growth and Development Officer

 Base Location:                                             County Office (SO42 7YQ) and home based

Contracted hours of work:                          20 hours/week (frequent evenings and weekends)

External Contacts:                                        External bodies and agencies. Representatives of National, Regional and local organisations concerned with youth work, development, the local and faith communities.

Internal contacts:                                          County Growth and Development Steering Group, County Growth and Development staff members, other HCSC staff members, County Leadership Team, County Commissioner, District Commissioners, District Growth and Development Appointments, and other personnel who are able to support Development.


Job Specification

The aim of this role is to work with local volunteers to create new opportunities for young people to take part in Scouts in Hampshire.   Working with Growth and Development team you will support, instigate and deliver the focused growth plan. You will liaise with a range of key volunteer line managers and work proactively work with local communities to develop and promote new opportunities.


Key Tasks

  • Open new scouting provisions in line with the County Growth Project
  • Support and work in partnership with District Commissioners, Group Scout Leaders and other volunteers to achieve organisational
  • Enable and motivate local Scouting to devise, apply and refresh focused, sustainable growth plans in existing and new provision (in line with the Hampshire Scouts agreed Growth Strategy).
  • Advise and support local Scouting focus upon the recruitment of adult volunteers and Young People.
  • Advise, support and encourage Scouting to engage with communities currently under-represented in Scouting and provide Scouting for
  • Help develop and deliver training, events and activities within Hampshire, designed to support Scouting and promote local growth and
  • Liaise with the CGDO, the County Growth Steering Group, the County Leadership Team, and across Districts, particularly concerning growth and volunteering issues.
  • Represent the views of County in Districts and Groups.
  • Ensure that a healthy and safe working environment is maintained.
  • Administer and maintain an effective home based office and
  • Any other duties as may reasonably be required by the County Growth and Development Steering Group and Line Manager.
