Scouts of the World Award – Residential “Discovery”
Scouts of the World Award

The Scouts of the World Award (SOWA) is an award specifically for Network members. The award is available to scouts of many countries, and in the UK it is specifically for network members aged 18-25.  More information, requirements and how to get involved can be found at:

All participants must attend a “Discovery” which is a residential of at least 4 days focusing on one of the following: development, environment and peace. We have currently been given information about a Discovery being run in June this year at Gilwell Park, they say:

The Discovery is an integral part of the Award. It is a residential event that offers the chance to explore and learn about your chosen topic—in this case Peace Development.

By the end of your two weekend Discovery you will have the skills to project manage your 14 day voluntary service, whether at home or abroad.

The Discovery consists of two weekends at Gilwell Park,  London

Dates: 1st —3rd and 15th —17th July

Cost: £130

For further information about this Discovery contact: Chris Dean on 07583 304000

The Discovery or Service project of the SOWA could count for the Residential section of the DofE Gold Award, it would also be possible to use the SOWA for aspects of the Queens Scout Award, but it is not possible to count an activity for more then one part of the Queens Scout Award, if you have any questions about this talk to a QSA mentor or DofE leader .
