Peak Assault – your next mountain adventure…

Explorers and Scout Network members from Hampshire Scouting have been invited to participate in “Peak Assault” – an annual orienteering weekend run by Hertfordshire Scouts, in a surprise mountain location and with hundreds of competitors.

Watch the video to see what Peak Assault is about.

Last year’s Peak Assault was in the Brecon Beacons, and HSX went along to find out about the event. Coaches arrive around midnight, then it’s up at 5am for breakfast, kit check, and route planning. Saturday is spent up on the hills working out the fastest way to visit as many checkpoints as possible, then it’s down for a lowland camp overnight. Sunday morning it’s back into wild country, before lunch and the presentation ceremony.

Peak Assault this year is over the weekend of 18-20 October 2019, and we’re looking for three Explorer teams and a Scout Network team to take part, alongside an HSX team. You’ll need some experience of hillwalking (with different routes depending on your skills), good equipment (which doesn’t need to be expensive), and a desire to challenge yourself. We’ll provide transport and centralised catering for Hampshire – and leaders are welcome to come along as walking leaders or supporters as well.

If you think you may be interested, send an email to Adam or Fi and we’ll be in touch with more information and advice about experience and kit. Closing date is mid-September 2019 – but put the date in your diary now. Cost is likely to be around £55 plus food per person. And the location is….secret !
