It is with great sadness that we inform you that one of our Scout leaders has “Gone Home”. Hugh Pritchard passed away on 23rd April.
Hugh Pritchard had been an Assistant Scout Leader at 1st Whiteley for the past 5 years and was an inspiration to his scouts and fellow leaders. He had worked tirelessly and with great commitment under the Scout team led by the SL Ian David and supported Neil Chapman GSL with energy and commitment.
Born in 1935, Hugh’s whole life was characterised by his love and joy in what scouting could do for young people. He was proud of his achievement as one of the last recipients of the Kings’ Scout Award, which was presented to him by the new Queen, Elizabeth II in 1953, the year of her coronation. He has continued his involvement in scouting throughout his whole life which is an enviable record.
Hugh’s dedication to the movement is an inspiration to us all. He was a charming and engaging man who had a wealth of knowledge and vast experience. He was meticulously proud of his heritage, his Scout values and his uniform.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Hugh’s family and the whole of 1st Whiteley Scout Group.
May Hugh, Rest in Peace.
