Gone Home – George Pickup

Hampshire Scouting was saddened to hear that George Pickup of Petersfield District passed away on Monday, after a long illness.

George held a number of appointments in Surrey and Hampshire over 40 years, most recently as Petersfield District President, and was awarded the Bar to the Silver Acorn in 2007.

A memorial service for George will be held at St Peter’s Church, Petersfield on Thursday 19th April at 3:00pm

During his time in Petersfield, George was Group Chairman of 1st Petersfield, Chairman of the District Scout Fellowship, and District President.

Under his leadership, the District Scout Fellowship organised the Pinewood Derby, the District Carol Concert, and many activities for Cubs and Beavers in Petersfield.

He was also very active at the District campsite, and with the County Scout Archivist Team.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow Scouters at this time.

George lived and breathed Scouting, believed that Baden-Powelll’s vision for young people has no equal, and wanted to see as many as possible benefit from it.
