Gone Home – George Baker

Hampshire Scouting was saddened to hear that George Baker, District President of New Forest West, passed away on 24th June 2012.

George was one of only three Scouters in Hampshire with over 60 years service – a Diamond Volunteer.

Scouting played a central role in George’s life, and he was awarded the Silver Wolf in 2002.

Our thoughts and prayers are with George’s family, friends and Scouting colleagues at this time.

George’s membership record shows his first appointment was as an Assistant Scout Master in Greater London from 8th January 1940, and he received his first Wood Badge in India during the war.

His roles included Group Scout Leader in both London and Essex, and Scout Fellowship and Scout Active Support in Hampshire. He became District President of New Forest West in the 1990s.

George had over 66 years and 5 months of recorded service, and his friends remember him as a great gentleman and a true Scout.
