Welcome new District Commissioner – Winchester

I am delighted to announce the newest member of Hampshire Scout’s District Commissioner team, Robin Cook, who took over as DC Winchester from Stephen Parker on Monday 11 June at their District’s AGM. On behalf of us all in Hampshire Scouts, I would like to welcome him to the team and to wish him all the best.  I would also like to express our sincere thanks to Robin’s predecessor, Stephen Parker, for his 7 years of service as DC.  Under Stephen’s leadership, Scouting in Winchester has been transformed in so many ways which led to an incredible growth of young people over the last 5 years of 460 (or 59%).  We wish Stephen well.

I’m pleased to say that I’ll be making more announcements about new DCs very soon and my thanks to the search teams who have successfully found us some amazing people to take on this fantastic role.

On top of that, over the coming 12 months or so, a number of DC positions will become available in various parts of the County. If you would like to take on a role that offers you a genuine chance to make a real difference to the lives of adults and young people beyond the Section and Group, then please consider becoming the lead volunteer in one of those Districts.  You don’t need to live in the District to be its DC, so please bear that in mind.  And, despite what people might say about the role, it really is one that offers some great opportunities to develop yourself as well as help others to develop themselves.  There is also tons of support and experience around you so you’ll never be on your own, particularly when dealing with the inevitable challenges.
