Uganda 2019
8th June 2017, 7:51am

Hampshire Scouts have been travelling to the Masindi area of Uganda since 2000, we have excellent links with the local scout groups in the area and have formed a friendship which has been nicknamed Hamindi.  You have the opportunity to join this family of scouts who have become Hamindi Scouts.

Each time a Hampshire contingent visits the area they have worked with the local scout groups to paint local schools and visit some of the natural water springs in the surrounding area which Hampshire scouts have fundraised to protect each year since 2000 (fundraising for these wells is an integral part of the expedition).  An important part of the expedition is the sharing of cultures, scouting knowledge / styles, campfire songs etc.  Although this is not like a Jamboree, members always come back having made a lot of new friends and a new perspective on life.

The plan

In the summer of 2019 we are offering the opportunity to visit, work in and learn about 2 very different African cultures, we are looking to take a group of 18 Explorer & Network Scouts with a Leadership team of 6 to:

Uganda, more specifically the Masindi area of Uganda to camp and carry out renovation work to a local school as well as visiting the natural water springs / wells that the contingent will have fundraised to protect. This is in addition to joint activities with the local scout groups who camp with us during this time. We also take part in an adventurous activity (White water rafting or Quad biking).

Kenya, more specifically the Masai Mara national reserve where we will stay in accommodation and go on safari, (this is the members holiday part of the trip) before continuing to Nairobi where we will visit an animal sanctuary (Giraffe Centre or David Sheldrick wildlife trust) before heading home.
