We have received the following note from our County President, the Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire as he is looking to appoint a ‘Cadet’ from one of the organisations listed 1-4 below.
As you may know I have 5 Lord-Lieutenants Cadets appointed each year who assist me with Royal Visits and on other formal occasions.
In the past these cadets have been solely selected from the Cadet Armed Services but moving forward I wish one of the places to be filled from a young person from one of the following organisations.
1. St John Ambulance
2. Police Cadets
3. Hampshire Scouts
4. Hampshire Guides
I attach a short brief of what I am looking for in a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet.
The role is hugely prestigious and the young person needs to be both smart in appearance, but also someone who is able to represent your organisation with confidence. They would tend to be a senior Cadet member of your organisation and someone who is respected by their peers. They will need to be able to get to various locations across the county so will ideally be able to drive or have a parent who is prepared to take them.
They receive a report at the end of their year which hopefully helps with whatever college/career they choose to follow next.
I also attach a short nomination form which I would be grateful if you could complete and return to me by 22 July.
A panel of Deputy Lieutenants will then select the Cadet for me and he/she will be appointed in Winchester Guildhall on 22nd September.
I am sure you will welcome this historical change I am making to spotlight the other youth organisation’ s in the county
Kind regards
Nigel Atkinson
HM Lord-Lieutenant
This is a great opportunity for Hampshire Scouting and clearly want to move things forward. Can we ask that you consider any young people in your District over 18 that you believe will be suitable. This bearing in mind that they need to be able to independently travel around Hampshire or have the support of someone who will do that with them.
The nominee should be asked to complete the attached simple form and this be signed by the person nominating the potential ‘Cadet’.
We need to ask that we have nominations to in by 30th June, so we are able to comply with the Lord-Lieutenants timescales. Forms to be sent to Martin Rudd via the email below.
