After the great success of Picnic in the Park events in 2015 and 2016 we have had a look at how these are run. In 2016 more people attended a picnic which wasn’t run by the County team than one that was (based on woggle sales). Although our 3 picnics have always proved hugely popular this year we have taken the decision to not run any and make them entirely self hosted. The date we have in mind is July 8th but feel free to run them any day you wish, if you already have a spring or summer event then why not link it in. There will be a badge available (design competition below), cost and ordering details to follow but we hope it will be available by mid June. We’d love to be invited along to a picnic or two and remember Chip is available to hire from Chris Scott (get in early!)
As announced at The County Rally we will be running out first County Beaver Camp the weekend of 9-10 September 2017 at Ferny Crofts Scout Activity Centre. We are still working out the details but definitely save the date! We are hoping to make it an activity filled weekend with another cool badge and the option of having it catered so there is less for you to bring. It is a camp rather than a sleepover, if you are unsure about camping maybe chat to your Cub or Scout leaders; I know they love getting their new recruits with experience under their belts! More details as soon as we have them.
After 11 very successful years at Paultons Park the time has come for some changes. As you will no doubt have noticed the park has expanded massively, not least with their recent Lost Kingdom additions. Due to this and their keenness to offer a calendar full of variety there is no longer room for a Christmas Beaver visit. This is mainly due to maintenance as areas of the park have to close earlier and the short gap between Halloween and our usual visit.
We have instead agreed on the alternate of an October trip and to offer the chance to even more Beavers there is a choice of Saturday or Sunday visit. Again we are working out the final details but the price will be similar to previous years but with the added advantage of a 1:6 ratio of free leader tickets and the whole park (with minor exceptions) due to be open including Magma, The Edge and Cobra. Full details out soon.
This year there are lots of events and lots of chances to get badges for our blankets! Following the lead from Ferny Crofts 40th Birthday and Link Camp (to the left) the badges for this year will all link together. This means the potential of 5 badges! To make it even more exciting we are letting you design two of the badges! There is a competition for Young Leaders and Adults to design the Picnic in the Park Badge and for Beavers to design the Paultons Park Badge. Follow the links for more details. Please note the different email for badge entries, if you can’t email them contact me for alternative arrangements.
